Forza Horizon 5 How to Drift

Drifing in Forza Horizon 5 is a central aspect of the game.  There are numerous challenges to tackle that require drifting skills and plenty of cars that’ll allow you to put your drifting skills to the test.  In this guide we’ll explain the basics of drifting in Forza Horizon 5 and how to get more points when hitting any of the Drift Zones in the game.

How to Drift in Forza Horizon 5

  • Gain speed going into a Drift Zone turn
  • Tap the E-Brake
  • Steer through the turn and Accelerate out of it
  • Repeat

The easiest and fastest way to get a drift score is to use a combination of braking and the e-brake.  By default these controls are the Left Trigger and the A button on the Xbox controller.  If you’re playing this on PC the controls will be whatever you have your keybinds set to.  By default that’s the Space bar for e-brake and the S key for braking.

What you’re going to want to do is get some speed going and then do a double tap of the A button while also steering around the turn and feathering the gas to keep your forward momentum.  Basically you need to do a couple of things correctly.  First, you want to take a good angle into the turns to give your car enough room to slide through the turn.  As you tap the e-brake you’ll want to keep the car sliding (drifting) through the turn.  Ideally you string this together into the next turn, but that’s a lesson for another day.

Until then, this should get you good enough scores to get 2-3 star ratings on the Drift Zone challenges in Forza Horizon 5.

Best Cars for Drifting in Forza Horizon 5

Some cars are definitely better than others when it comes to drifting.  Rear wheel drive cars are better for drifting than front wheel or all wheel drive cars.  If you want a short cut to the best drift cars in Forza Horizon 5 they do sell a “Formula Drift Car Pack” which features 8 cars that are designed specifically for drifting.  But beyond that you could create the ultimate drift car yourself.  You’re simply looking for rear wheel drive vehicles that can be gutted for weight that have high horsepower.
